When diagnosing macular degeneration, your eye care provider will ask you about your medical history and perform a comprehensive eye exam. In order for your eye care professional to make a macular degeneration diagnosis, certain tests may be performed, including a visual acuity test, a dilated eye exam, and a fluorescein angiogram.
Most often, in order to make a macular degeneration diagnosis, your eye care provider will ask you a number of questions about your medical history and will also perform a comprehensive eye exam.
A macular degeneration diagnosis is made through a comprehensive eye exam that may include the following:
- Visual acuity test
- Dilated eye exam
- Tonometry
- Amsler grid
- Fluorescein angiogram.
