Macular Degeneration Home > Treatment for Macular Degeneration

Although there is no cure for macular degeneration, several treatment options are available. The treatment your eyecare professional recommends will be based on the type of macular degeneration you have.

There are two main types of macular degeneration: dry and wet. With dry macular degeneration, you may have success in the disease's early stages by taking certain vitamins. A recent study found that taking a specific high-dose formulation of antioxidants and zinc significantly reduced the risk of advanced macular degeneration and its associated vision loss.

For wet macular degeneration, treatment options include photodynamic therapy, laser surgery, and injections.
