Macugen® (
pegaptanib sodium) is a medication used to treat age-related
wet macular degeneration. It is unlikely to interact with other medications. This is probably because Macugen is injected directly into the eye and very little of the drug reaches the bloodstream. Because the rest of the body is exposed to very little Macugen, drug interactions are not likely. However, it is important to understand that Macugen has not been thoroughly studied in combination with other medications, and it is possible that there are Macugen interactions that are not currently known.
Because not all Macugen drug interactions may be known at this time, you should talk with your pharmacist or healthcare provider on a regular basis about any specific drug interactions that may apply to you.
