Info on Dry Macular Degeneration

A leading cause of vision loss in Americans over the age of 65, dry macular degeneration is an eye disease in which the light-sensitive cells in the retina break down. Common symptoms of this condition include:
 
  • Blurry vision
  • Difficulty recognizing faces
  • Needing extra light for reading.

What causes it? Although the exact cause is unknown, many risk factors have been linked to dry macular degeneration, including:
 
  • Increasing age
  • Obesity
  • Smoking
  • Family history.
  •  
There is no cure for this condition; however, certain vitamins are sometimes used to treat the disease in its early stages.
